TikTok no longer lets profiles carry native Instagram and YouTube links. That is a quiet edit to a profile screen, and it hits every funnel that depended on a one-tap handoff. If your program sends TikTok viewers to Instagram or YouTube, the path just got longer. Rebuilding the bio funnel with a link hub is the practical fix, but only if you treat it as measurement infrastructure, not decoration.
What actually changed on the profile
According to SocialDay’s report on the change, TikTok removed the dedicated Instagram and YouTube fields from Edit Profile in November 2025. Creators are left with a single website field.
The wording matters. TikTok says it no longer supports links that open or log you into other social apps, but web links to those platforms’ sites are still allowed. So the destination is not banned. The seamless app-to-app jump is gone, and viewers now pass through a browser.
For brands, that means three things:
- Every creator profile in your roster now has one outbound slot, not three.
- Any whitelisted Instagram or YouTube icon in a past creator brief is dead weight.
- Your attribution for cross-platform journeys likely has a hole you have not measured yet.
Why this is a brand problem, not a creator problem
It is tempting to file this under creator inconvenience. Don’t. If you pay a creator to build awareness on TikTok and capture demand on Instagram Stories, a YouTube channel, or your own site, you now fund a leakier path.
SocialDay argues that conversion drops at every added step and that the long tail of creators will feel it most. That is an editorial judgment, not a measured benchmark, so test it against your own data rather than assuming a number.
When a platform removes a handoff, the cost does not disappear. It moves to the advertiser as lower click-through, murkier attribution, or both.
There is also a strategic read. SocialDay points to the same pattern across TikTok’s recent decisions, from tighter off-platform rules to monetization tools that keep revenue in-app. TikTok has little incentive to make leaving easy. Plan accordingly.
Where a link hub fits (and where it doesn’t)
A link hub solves one narrow problem: one slot, many destinations. Put a single hub URL in the website field, and you can route viewers to Instagram, YouTube, a product page, or a campaign landing page from one place.
But a link hub is a detour, not a destination. Every extra tap is friction. The right question is not “should we use a hub?” It is “which single action do we want from this viewer, and does a menu help or hurt?”
A rough decision rule:
- One campaign, one goal. Skip the menu. Point the website field straight at the landing page, with UTM parameters.
- Always-on creator profiles. Use a hub, but cap it at three or four links, with the primary action first.
- Brand-owned TikTok account. Use a hub only if you have real secondary destinations, such as a YouTube channel and a store locator.
One caution. Link hubs are now critical infrastructure for many creators, and SocialDay flags the dependency risk if pricing or terms change. Keep the hub URL on a domain or redirect you control where possible, so you can swap vendors without editing hundreds of profiles.
Rebuilding the funnel, step by step
Here is the sequence I would run for an active influencer program.
1. Audit every profile
Pull the current bio link for every TikTok creator on your roster. Note which still point to a dead field, a bare Instagram URL, or an untracked link. Expect inconsistency.
2. Standardize one tracked link per creator
Give each creator a unique, tagged URL. If the hub sits in the middle, tag the hub link and the links inside it separately. Otherwise you will know that someone clicked, but not what they wanted.
3. Add a video-level layer
Profile links are only one path. SocialDay lists pinned comments with full URLs and trigger-word DM tools as common workarounds, noting that neither is as clean as a profile link. Use them for campaigns where a specific video drives the offer. Check the platform’s current rules before building anything on automation.
4. Map the Instagram side
Your Instagram destination has its own shifts. We covered the attribution implications in our guide to the Instagram link in bio shift. Read both together, because a viewer who hops TikTok to Instagram crosses two changing surfaces.
5. Update the creator brief and contract
Add a clause on required bio link format, tracking parameters, and how long the link must stay live. If you license content, review it against your TikTok licensing rights at the same time.
Meta is moving the other way
While TikTok narrows the bio, Instagram is trying to make it irrelevant. Tubefilter reported that Meta announced product tags in Reels at Shoptalk Spring. According to Tubefilter, a single Reel can carry up to 30 product links, and creators with at least 1,000 followers gain access as tests expand.
Meta’s Nicola Mendelsohn framed it as the end of link in bio for creators, and Retail Dive covered the same announcement. Tubefilter adds that Meta is not taking commissions on the new links.
The takeaway for a planner: the bio link is losing weight on Instagram and gaining weight on TikTok, because the website field is now TikTok’s only outbound door. Budget your tracking effort to match.
Keeping the money on the platform you control
Sometimes the best answer to a closed gate is to stop knocking. If your goal is a sale, consider whether the transaction can happen natively. Our look at the TikTok Shop performance score explains the eligibility rules for affiliates. For paid amplification of creator content, the TikTok TopView and Pulse breakdown shows where in-app spend can substitute for a click-out.
If you sell through creator-owned checkouts instead, see how to set up creator checkout attribution.
Metrics to watch after the rebuild
- Bio link click-through rate by creator, against your pre-change baseline.
- Hub drop-off: clicks on the hub page versus clicks on any destination inside it.
- Destination quality: bounce rate and conversion from TikTok-sourced sessions.
- Follower migration: new Instagram or YouTube followers traced to TikTok campaigns.
Run this for one full campaign cycle before drawing conclusions. Early numbers will be noisy, because creators update profiles at different speeds.
FAQs
Did TikTok remove all links to Instagram and YouTube?
No. Per SocialDay, TikTok removed the dedicated Instagram and YouTube fields and no longer supports links that open or log you into other social apps. Web links to those platforms can still go in the website field.
Do brands need a link hub to replace the old links?
Not necessarily. A hub helps when you need several destinations from one slot. If a campaign has one goal, a direct, tagged link to a single landing page usually has less friction.
Does a link hub hurt conversion?
It can, because it adds a step. Limit the hub to a few links, put the primary action first, and compare its performance against a direct link in a controlled test.
How should we track traffic from creator bio links?
Assign each creator a unique tagged URL, and tag the links inside any hub separately. That lets you attribute both the click to the hub and the click onward to the destination.
Is Instagram doing the same thing?
No, the direction is different. Tubefilter reports that Meta is rolling out product tags in Reels so creators can bypass link in bio entirely.
Next step
This week, export every creator’s TikTok bio link, assign each a unique tagged URL, and run a two-week A/B test of a direct link against a hub for your top five performers. Decide on the hub only after you see the drop-off numbers.
